Are you currently using Zimbra (www.zimbra.com) as your collaboration server for your domains and wanted to enable mobile synchronization in the open source edition of the server? Well your search is over as I have written a document that explains what you need to install to make this happen. I have been on the search for a way to enable mobile synchronization since day 1 and have tried many different solutions which did not work. I did find a commercial solution called ZExtras (www.zextras.com) that did work, but when you look at the cost per user it would be close to what the cost was for the network edition. Since my preimary job is in education, I was limited in what I could spend so my search continued.
The zimbra server should use an SSL Certificate so that any traffic between the user and the server is encrypted. In hosting domains in education, it just amazes me how many districts do not protect the traffic between a mobile device and the server. This allows for someone else to sniff the packets on a remote network to gain access to a person's account. With this information, the attacker can send junk email messages without anyone's knowledge until it is too late. The result of this could result in the email server being blacklisted which takes much time to get delisted.
In following this document, these instructions will be completed on the domain's web server so that when a client configures the mobile device, they would just simply enter the domain name.
