Search Engine Optimization Roadtrip

While working with a client on a brand new website, I am always looking for ways to drive traffic to a site so the website can be found in different search engines. One nice thing about our country is we do not have a shortage of creativity in the human race and each business owner has their own goals they would like to see which makes them a success. This client knows his business inside and out and wanted to try branching out to the Internet as a way to generate sales. In a past conversation, one of the objectives of being successful on this project is to generate sales either on a daily basis or a weekly basis on this website.

Anyone can have the greatest idea or the best business in the world. However, if one of your goals is to sell something and you are not generating any sells through this idea or business then your sucess has turned into a failure. If you are wanting to grow your business with the Internet you can not think of the business as a Local business anymore. Once the business is on the Internet either through Amazon.com, Ebay.com or through your own E-Commerce solution your business is not global and additional rules have to be followed.

One of the first things I do is create a site within Google Analytics and using the scripting language of the site is limit the analytics to not display when my network or the client's network visits the website location. This is done so the website owner can acquire a true picture of the visitors to the site without adding the countless visits from our two locations.

While working on the site to use my knowledge over the years, I work with the client to gain as much information as I can about the business so that together we can make a plan to hit the client's goal for this website. I use provided information to generate a Meta Description and Meta Keywords and try to get those inserted into the website very early on. I do this because as we redesign the website to fit the goals of the website, incase the website gets indexed this information will already be on the given pages.

One of the next things I do is create a site within the Google Webmaster Tools as this shows me how many impressions and clicks result from the google search engine. I then tie the Google Analytics with the Webmaster Tools and allow this data to populate between these services.
